| what a dog of a night Im an estate manager, but chef by trade and so i do a few private parties through out the year and its been a busy summer sadly meaning ive not been getting my rod out nealy enough, that said i havnt missed a club match yet, i joined bishops lydeard club late in the year a complete novice and ive got some serious points to catch up with.saturday 5th was the clubs mini rover pairs,i had missed the last meeting due to work so had no idea who id be with, and i had a huge 18th to single handedly do the catering for on the friday night, well the party started 7pm, they ate at 9, had breakfast at 2am, by this time i was really pissed, the bar staff were lets say quite generous,3am i climbed in bed ,up again at 9am cleared the marquee , and set up for lunch....knackered i served lunch at 2pm, the match had just started and i had a hours drive ahead of me,and i so nearly didnt go, grabbed my ian golds fishing lugguage (which i must say is exellent except because its made of canvas perminantly stinks like an old fanny)id had no time to make up rigs ,no bait!grabbed me rod n rest raced to tesco, bought some sort of liquid kick and some chocolate a pot of prepared squid and 2 iffy mackerel, off i went like the clappers to saint audreys bay, yet another north coast scabby beach where i met a couple of my mates who had lost so much stuff off the reef, the tide was muddy and hard, what was i doing , didnt fancy it at all but then in an area of shallow water dipped between some shelves i saw a fish mullet i think and had a go,why not , although i can now say why, i didnt get it clearly the old bit of pork pie id found in the bottom of my bag wasnt close enough to imitating a bit bread as i had hoped .gave up. then the tide raced in faster than id seen a tide move, constantly picking up my stuff, moving back and back and back, finally hitting the high point, i could settle,no one for a hundred yards at least had caught a thing ,lightly dressed i lit a fire, probably shouldnt of added that bottle i found though the smell was awful ooops. any way head light on as darkness fell ,needed a new tactic quick, the big hooks just werent working ,found a tiny little thing added the eye of the mackerel and a tenticle of squid and tried my luck ...well luck it was ,i landed a really lovely big doggie, yes just a doggie but its points , quitness resumed and every one packed up at 10 and met back at blue anchor where for 10 minutes that lucky doggie had me in 2nd!me!2nd in the individuals and in the pairs ,turned out that because 13 people were fishing and i was the newest club member that i had been paired with myself thus any thing i caughtwas doubled, result, since id caught and mostly every one else hadnt, until 2 guys who we had forgotten were fishing turned up with more than a few on their cards, swiftly knocking me down to 4th and 4th.....still chuft ...very chuft i drove home , and man did i sleep that night, like a dog ![]() |

| Re: what a dog of a night Well done on the 4th, that's not bad going! I think we met a couple of guys from Bishops Lydeard club at Lillstock a few weeks back. CodCupKid on the Veals site, can't remember his or hi mates names. Top blokes! Sounds like a good club.![]() __________________ Right then, checklist: Rods. Check. Reels. Check. Speckled Hen. Check.
