Re: By the lamp light or the silvery moon

Its all very well having a couple of million candle power on your bonce, but won't it spook the fish?
Also, as far as a headlamp is concerned, I find that its mainly for 'close to' work, ie at the tripod, baiting up, wiping hands, setting the reel, watching the rod tip, etc that I need it for.
Whats the use of a strong beam? You can't follow the lead out to see!
A base lamp would be for pouring the coffee, opening up the sandwiches, sorting out a tangle, preparing the bait etc. so you want one thats going to illuminate the immediate vicinity adequatleyreliably and without mess
For that reason I would prefer to stick to a lantern. I'm therefore going to ditch the Tilley and get a Coleman, sounds more user friendly. From the posts it would appear that the self igniter is easily broken and the ones that need to be lit manually are not too fiddly anyway.
The halogen floodlights look a bit ott and expensive, although easy to use.

Re: By the lamp light or the silvery moon

Personally, I love my Coleman lamp, its a twin mantle jobbie and I find I rely on it for night sessions, with my Petzl headlamp for close up work as already mentioned

Thumbs up Re: By the lamp light or the silvery moon

Fished Selsey east beach last night, strange tide neither in or out really, nothing doin just caught a couple of whiting. The 5 million candlepower torch was brilliant for stopping nosey dogs in their tracks and maybe distracting jumbo jets overhead, but thats about it.I prefer my colemans and head torch.See if I can get my money back on the torch or mount it on the boat if I cant. The tackle dealer in Selsey(Raymonds I think its called)hadn,t any rag when I turned up,but bought it down to the beach later.Cheers john!
