Re: By the lamp light or the silvery moon

The Coleman that Welly and I use is really bright. The best way to use these and all lamps is to have them as high as you can sensibly get it. This is manly due to a loss of light being down so low and the fact it can be quite blinding too.

Best way to light.....cheap gas lighter with the flame adjusted to high!!

One word of advice though.......for god sake keep the Tilley and have it serviced (not sure where) and keep it as back up. They were once a fantastic light to use.

If you decide to sell it.......pm me!!

Re: By the lamp light or the silvery moon

Kiwi,
I've had it serviced a couple of years ago by Tilley themselves and used it a handfull of times since.
Never really got on with it, smelly, fiddly, dirty.
Ok as back up I suppose, but rather have the sort your talking about that lights immediately.
Theres nothing worse than fiddling about with the pre-heater thing and it blowing out before its even in, and when finally in then getting a flare up which then blackens the glass.
I'll make sure I PM you in due course.

Re: By the lamp light or the silvery moon

For me part of fishing is the atmosphere, which imho is ruined by too much light. I have an led on each rod tip, and a lightweight headtorch which I turn off unless I have a fish on the line or am baiting up. Less to carry to go wrong and much more enjoyable!

Re: By the lamp light or the silvery moon

hi sticky, them new rechargeable lamps look the biz.i use just a rechargeable headlamp that you can switch between halogen and led. the led is brill think you get about 40+hrs from a charge not 2 bright so you dont scare those biggies in the shallow water.

Re: By the lamp light or the silvery moon

Hi Massive Pollocks,
You've got a rechargeable headlamp then that you recommend?
Whats the make of it? Can it change from wide beam to long narrow beam?

Are you also referring to a rechargeable lantern base light? If so whats the make of that one? I've not seen one that looks any good and the one I used to have I'm glad I don't any more!

Re: By the lamp light or the silvery moon

i have also been thining of getting a lamp of headlamp
the prob is they are all so expencive
i was thinking maybe a head lamp like people use for caving but they are expencive
i then thought maybe a gay lanter, but a decent 1 is also expencive
whats the general feeling, headlamp or lanter??
and also how much would you say is a fair price to pay??
