What type of rig? Hiya all, I am very new to sea fishing although I have been a course fisherman most of my life. I have purchased some ready made rigs from Dansons to give me a starting point. I have found out via the web how the majority of the rigs work bur one has alluded me. Now I know that some of you seasoned worm drowners out there are gonna laugh, but what is a clipped rig? I have a two hook rig with a swivel at one end and a clip at the other. What goes where please? I fished with this rig over the weekend and how I did it was to tie the mainline to the swivel and hooked the weight on the clip, it didn't seem right. Please put me right. Another thing whilst I'm on here. How do you keep ragworm on the hook when you cast? I invairiably saw a piece fly off in the opposite direction every time I cast out. Cheers for now.

Re: What type of rig? Hi Seti Clipped rigs can be "up" &/or "down" depending whetehr the clip is above or below the snood and hold the hook and snood against the mainline. They keep the whole lot more streamlined to achieve greater distance for less oomph and protect your delicate worms from the air rushing past. Theoreticaly when the weight hits the water (or the whole lot hits the bottom) the line should crinkle/concertina & relase the hooks. Connecting. You should really be using a shock leader when casting (10lb for each ounce of weight(lead&bait)) on the end of your mainline and this would have a clip on the end. so you would attach the clip on the shockleader to the swivel on the rig and the weight to the clip on the bottom of the rig. Sounds like you had it the right way up .there are some rig diagrams on here somewhere if you give the site a search. Keeping rag on the hook during the cast. Use a baiting needle to feed the little nippers on & use a clipped rig. I prefer "up" for worm, but dont forget to adjust the stop on the snood to prevent the worm ending up the snnod & well off the hook. __________________ Spahill <:--- --- --- --- It was this big --- --- --- ---:>

Re: What type of rig? Hi ya Spahil, thanks for this mate. Told you I was very new to this aspect of the sport, what the heck is a snood? lol One reason I am a bit unsure of the 'clipped' rig I'm using is that if I hold the rig by the swivel the bottom hook link slides down and is restilng on the clip (lead). If I hold it by the clip the hook link (which by the way is attached to a swivel between two small red beads) slides up the line and comes to rest against a crimp. The rig 'looks' better this way but it means that the main line (shock leader) fixes to the clip.I this right? I haven't any bait clips on this rig as I can see. Cheers my friend.

Re: What type of rig? Hi Seti snood is the length of line that goes from hook to swivel. Your rig sounds a bit strange to me - its almost a 1 up 1 down. If the clip (lead) was on the swivel between the beads and you tied your bottom hooklength where the clip is then it would be. Are all the rigs you got like that? Perhaps that one was just mistied. But then again if it catches fish.....who cares ![]() __________________ Spahill <:--- --- --- --- It was this big --- --- --- ---:>

Re: What type of rig? Hiya Spahill my friend, thanks for this. Trust me to start something. I bought 6 rigs from Danson 2x clipped rigs (these) and 2 each of others which I can see how to use. Tell you what, I'm having a weekend in Weymouth around the 17th of this month so I'll try it both ways and let you know what happens. Just linked to Gemini Tackle and they say the rig can be used either way. I'll attach the leader to the clip and (somehow) the weight to the swivel, this will give me a fixed lower snood and a sliding top one. ![]()

Re: What type of rig? Yep nice site info Nick. Just found out I have been hooking crab the wrong way .was strugling with a 3/0 to get a crab from 1 leg socket to one on the other side. Hope I am still discovering new things at Seti's age (no offence intended mate). Comming to the smutt meet gents? __________________ Spahill <:--- --- --- --- It was this big --- --- --- ---:>
