Ballan Wrasse help please Hi, I am wanting a bit of advice just incase I am missing out on an easy method. I currently use a rotten bottom rig so I can try and pull the wrasse out of a kelpy ground area. the weed is like tree trunks and there are double figure ballans living in there. My mate who does crab pots has had one of 10.5lbs and one of 11 lbs. I saw the fish he had too so I know its legit. My biggest on the rod there is 8lb and getting loads of 6lbs. My trouble is I can't find a way of elevating the crab enough to be able to get the big ones out. The tide runs too fast there to float fish and you need to cast about 20 feet to hit the mark. a 6oz lead only just about holds the tide. I have a firm rod now that gives me a foot or two advantage as it's taking out the bend but still there too quick at getting well wedged in. If anyone has any method as mad as you like I will try it, as fraustration is well set in.

Re: Ballan Wrasse help please maybe try a pop up bead or float on the snood to lift bait above the kelp not sure otherwise ![]() dave __________________ www.exmouthsaa.co.uk 24 beers in a case and 24 hours in a day simples You won't know unless you go :D...and if you do go!! please let us know :D as thats how the forum thrives

Re: Ballan Wrasse help please Thanks for your help. I will have ago Saturday morning if I get up in time for the low tide. I'm in Guernsey and our tide ranges are so large it limits are use of low tide spots. I should be able to get an hour in or get stranded and then get my mate to pick me up in his boat. I hate relying on people to get me as I can't swim in waders. I will let you know the out come.

Re: Ballan Wrasse help please 6oz lead/ scrap, rotten bottom, sml swivel to mainline , slideing float , fix snood directly to float then use stop knot on main line to hold float just above weed if you know how high the kelp stands off the bottom. just another mad thought from gj. other mad ideas include the megamulti pulley rig & the clipped down float rig. ![]() __________________ beer so many venues, so little time.

Re: Ballan Wrasse help please I will take you there Pompy. I had a 10lb 13oz 7drms Bass there too so you might want to try the Bass fishing in the night. I live in Guernsey Channel Islands so if you ever come across let me know. I still have the press cut out with my double figure Bass, as I have only had 3 in the last 6 years. I only go for the Ballans because they are better sport then Bass. We get Trigger fish here that are good fighting fish.
