Beach Rod review

Has anyone got or used a Conoflex Maverick 6? If so, any good?
Same again for the Zziplex 3500, any good?

I know that what's good for one is not neccessarily good for another, but whats the general concensus?

Hi mate,

Not a 3500, but I have got 3 Zippys of varying vintage .. a Pro-Am Match, a Quattra sport and a F-Zero (new version of groundcaster).

You're welcome to have a go with any of 'em if it'll help you decide. Personally, I like the Quattra and the Pro-Am, although typically, the F-Zero cost the most!! LOL

I've used quite a few others too - perhaps we could discuss over a pint!

Cheers,
JB.

Cool Re: Beach Rod review

Hi SBoy,

I have a Ziplex 4500 and it is a superb rod, well balanced and I had a sliding reel seat for down the but casting, but more to balance the rod out.
A Beast for Pendulum casting.
Bootiful bit of kit mate. Matched with a Penn 525 Mag.

Re: Beach Rod review

I've got a pair of Zziplex Primo Synchro's (14ft) for my pendulum beach work.

A Zziplex Primo Full Tournament (13ft 2") just in case!!!!!!!!!

A Century Raptor 15ft version, for my rough ground fishing.

A couple of my pals have just purchased them new Century Carbon Metal rods, nice bit kit actually, but I find that the butt diameter is far too thin for me.

...And a shed load of other rods that have since retired!

A couple of Cono-flex Flattie Fanatics too, and various spinning rods, also got a carp rod which I love using for bass!

Re: Beach Rod review

Thanks chaps for your posts.
If you were me (and you're probably glad your not!) and you were replacing your rod, what would you go for. Its to sit with a Millionaire 7HT.
Take into account the fact that my pendulum technique requires honing

Hi mate,

Match your rod N' reel to the type of fishing you willbe doing most of the time. 7HT is a good reel i have one but i only use it on my penn bass rod for either close in smooth ground work or mucking about in estuaries and on mud flats. But it will go with my Daiwa Sandstorm for clean ground fishing.

Re: Beach Rod review

I mainly do clean ground fishing. I hate getting fouled up, especially in the dark.
Why do you think the 7HT is only for light work?
At the mo I have a Penn Progression Surf. The reviews at the time were excellent and I've been pleased with it. But I don't have experience of anything else to compare it to.
I want to keep that one and replace rod 2 which is an antiquated oversized horse whip.

Cos if I compare it to my slosh20 its not man enough.

I would prefer to use my slosh20 any day, more guts and grunt to get you out of kelp and rocks. Plus it has a weighted handle and a good ratio:
