Re: Hastings Pier

they keep talking about closing the pier (have been for over 10 years that i know of!) if this is true, it may be just for winter as hastings is more of a summer town. but i've seen loads fishing down old town, by rock n ore car park & behind underwater world.or failing that, try pevansey, that's a good spot, my brothers favorite spot, but he does fish along the coast.
hope this is of help to you mate.

Re: Hastings Pier

i was down hastings with my mrs & lil'un the presvious week & noticed it still closed.
when chatting with my mum after we got back, she said the owners claim they don't have enough funds, the council should pay & they should get grants & that the stall holders must pay towards it as well.
the council says it's privately owned, so it's not their responsibility & it's down to the owners & stall holders to pay for it & ask for grants (guess lottery, english herataige etc).
stall holders claim their rent includes maintenance allowance.
& so it goes round in a never ending circle untill the pier ends up like brightons west pier ... a wreck & eyesore, which is a shame as i think hastings is much nicer than any of the other sussex seaside towns.
as we've seen from newhaven, the harbour breakwater & beach are closed off because it's cheaper for newhaven port authorities (i believe it is that own both) to close it off than repair the steps to the beach & breakwater , which has seen the small shop & go-kart area behind the carpark close up & move.

Re: Hastings Pier

Hi,I am from Hastings and yes the pier is closed and will be for the foreseeable future it seems, only beach fishing now and I am told that it's not very good here anymore(but this is only what I am told). Most anglers now congregate along the far end of the old town at Rockanore.
