beach rod under £40

Hi guys,

I'm planning on buying a beach rod as I seem to be fishing beaches more and more with my pier rod. I have a budget of around £40. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Saul.

Re: beach rod under £40

Hi, I'm new to beach fishing this year mate, always been a fresh water fisherman before. My advise would be to go to www.spottydogtackle.com and get one the Shimano Nexave BX Surf 130F's they have for sale, they are under £50 at present and should be £120. I got one and am really happy with it, caught two 3-4 cod on it last weekend in fact!

Hope it helps and goodluck mate.

Re: beach rod under £40

Ah I forgot to say I wanted a rod and reel combo, but that looks really nice. How much would a decent reel be on top of that? Or can you recomend a rod and reel combo for under 50?

Thanks alot tho, aaagh I really want that now!

EDIT.

The 'Daiwa Beach Combo - Fixed Spool' is the cheapest rod 'n' reel combo on that site, and its still a fair bit over my budget, is it work forking out the extra £20?

Re: beach rod under £40

I spoke to the bloke at spottydog as I was thinking the Dawia longbeam rod and he said that the Simano was a million times better, so I forked out the extra, and bought a dawia emcast reel for around £45, and thats brilliant as well.

I asked for rod advise on this forum and most members told me the same thing, buy something half decent, that way you will have it for years.

Re: beach rod under £40

Have a search around all the online tackle shops, Veals, tackleuk, spottydog, fosters of birmingham, angling direct etc, and try to get a reel with as many ball bearings in it, as you can afford.

When I started this year I was using a reel which was older than you, and it did the job Ok.
