Smile Need Rod advise

Hi I'm new on here so be gentle,

I am going to start beach fishing around Hopton and down torwards the suffolk coast. I am looking at sea rods and just don't know which one to buy, I've been told to buy a budget rod to start, under £50. One which im looking at is a:

daiwa longbeam 12/13ft surf beach rod £40-50.

Can I ask for some advise, does anyone have one of these?, or can anyone suggest a better rod?.

I will be starting with the overhead casting method, does it make any difference having a 12 or 13ft rod?

Thanks

Re: Need Rod advise

Hi Bigfin,

Welcome to the forum.

As I am not from your area I cannot advise on a rod that would suit the beaches that you will be fishing on. I am mainly a charter fisherman and do not normally fish from the shore.

If you are dedicated to sea angling and it is not just a passing phase then I would buy the best that you can afford, there is no point in spending £50 on a broomstick that you will regret later. I'm not saying that all £50 rods are broomsticks but I expect that you will understand, the more you spend the better quality of the rod. What is the point of spending £50 and then deciding later that you wished you had spent a little more and got a far superior rod. Cheap rods have no second hand value.

Before making your purchase, might I suggest that you pay a visit to your local tackle shop and ask their opinion, then pay a visit to the beaches that you will be fishing and ask those fishing their opinion.

When you have then decided, browse the Internet and find how the prices compare with your local shop and then decide. Local tackle dealer or Internet.

I apologise for the lack of response from the other members of the forum, I am sure that someone from your area will eventually read your question and come up with a better answer than mine.

Regards

Drew

Re: Need Rod advise

hi , drew s advise is pretty much spot on, get as good a rod as you can afford

diawa rods are good for the money
def go to the tackle shops in the area though as they need the support and sure will find a good deal

Re: Need Rod advise

Just read a review in Total Sea Fishing on the Shimano Nexave-BX Surf 130F and then found this link - rod under £50. I'm only a novice myself so cant comment on the rod but thought i would pass on any way: Plus I’ve used the shop myself and are reliable.

Re: Need Rod advise

Hey guys as long as you don`t mind second hand then you should check out the fishing gear for sale on this site. You may get a decent rod for half the normal price and a lot of guys on here take there fishing seriously so you know the gear has been looked after.

use the search tab and check it out!!
