Pier fishing rods & spinning help.....

Hello everyone, I'm new here and have little experience fishing. I've only fished from piers in portsmouth years ago, and am looking to get back into it.

I have a nine foot 2-4 oz pier rod (fixed spool reel + 20 pound line) and a ten foot 4-6 oz pier rod (fixed spool reel + 20 pound line).

I've only done light pier work & used feathers for mackeral during the summer. I'd like to know if these rods were suitable for close shore fishing and also lure fishing for bass etc?

I've bought some dexter wedges and other bass lures/spinners. Will I need a lighter/longer rod for spinning?
