| Have just booked holiday in a cottage at Loch Sunart and decided I would take up fishing again. I have never fished from a beach so some basic questions. I have bought some tackle from my local angling shop. 13ft beachcaster. I have a fixed spool reel loaded with 25lb line. Also bought some shock leader w2ith 50lb breaking strain, and a variety of rigs. Can I attach the shock leader to my main line using a snap swivel? Can I then attach rig to shock leader using a similar snap swivel ? I am not very good at knots despite being a watersports instructor. Normally use the biggest securest knot I can devise myself ![]() Anybody any knowledge of Loch Sunart fishing from rocks and what I am likely or not to catch? Any basic rig tips for this area would be most welcome. |

| Re: Back fishing after 30 years away Hi and welcome to the forum Drifter.......I can't help you ref the area you going to fish I afraid. Now to the shockleader...you can't attach it with a snap swivel or any kind of swivel, as the leader will have to pass through the rod rings during casting. This could cause damage to the rings and the rod. However, if you know how deep you fishing and how far out, you might get away without a shockleader if you use 25lb mailine, providing on the weight you using and you don't 'power cast'. I'm not very experienced in beachcasting but I'm sure one of the guys will come along soon to give you more tips.
