| No escape! Hi folks, Any comments will be read with interest. It really does matter what kind of rig you use...or does it? I'm pretty certain it does ha ha but I went out the other day with two rods. I've been catching lots of mackerel but wanted to try something new. I went to my usual shore fishing spot (I'm very limited round this particular bit of coast just now with the kit I have) and I took some mackerel with me for bait. The plan; to bait up one rod and cast it out, then get a mackerel rig on the other rod so I didn't miss all the action. I bought a couple of random different ready made rigs from the local shop, all writen in norwegian (handy) and baited one of these with a couple of long strips od mackerel, cast out, and it started to twitch streight away! In it came again and what should be on the end but two mackerel! I couldn't escape them...I tried again before setting up the other mackerel rod, leaving the baited rod in the water but nothing more happened apart from a bunch of mackerel on the mackerel rig. Wrong place, wrong time of day perhaps, maybe the wrong rig.... Interestingly I discovered that I could cast much further with a 10ft rod than a 13ft rod with the same weight on the end. There seemed to be so much more 'lag' or friction or something. I don't have heavy enough line or a shock leader set up to really try practicing the beach casting technique yet, but I'm thinking it takes a bit of practice! Anyway, hey ho, it's a nice sunday....where's my stuff! |
