Strange Fish Hi, just wondering if anyone can help as for a while now i've been looking online to try & find an identification chart for all the fish found in british waters with no luck. The reason being is I caught a fish in my crab trap which was around 30cm long with quite a large head which was very similar to a sea horse & a body like an eel but not so rounded or smooth & was brown & black. Unfortunately I dont have a photos but would be very grateful if anyone could help me out. Cheers Neil

Re: Strange Fish Sounds like some kind of pipefish....seen one or two in my life swimming on the surface but never found one on the beach or up river or even seen one caught....do a search on it and see if its one of those....could be.

Re: Strange Fish yep sounds like a definite pipefish to me The Seahorse face is due to a pipefish being a distinct family of the seahorse and the body of the eel matches up a descrption of them are as being a straight-bodied seahorse Hope this helps __________________ CrAiG.wHiTeLaW .The Guy in the Blue Hat http://www.bebo.com/ctwhitelaw 2008 so far - Trips 12 - Blanks 4 Species 2008 - Brown Trout ,Sea Trout,Rainbow Trout,Roach

Re: Strange Fish This should give you a clue: http://web.ukonline.co.uk/aquarium/p...epipefish.html The definitive work for ID is probably: http://www.fishbase.org/search.php Type in Pipe Snakefish under Common Name and ... http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/Spec...mary.php?id=67 Hope that helps.

Re: Strange Fish Yep, i'd definately go for a Pipefish. I've never caught one, but I've seen them occasionally when I've been snorkeling.
