Polzeath north cornwall

Hi everyone
we are off to to Polzeath at the end of July and are hoping for some tips on where to fish in the locality. We (self and daughter) are pretty new to all this, We started last year and have done a bit of bass/mackeral from the beach in Devon with some success (she caught first!). I'm looking to get some beach casting kit as well for this year so any tips on where to go, rigs to use etc for beach or lures would be very welcome.
Thanks in advance
Simon

Re: Polzeath north cornwall

Hi simon,I live in mevagissey on the south coast of cornwall, but my brother-in-law dose a lot of fishing around the north coast. If the surf is running try polzeath beach some great bass have been cought there Also rays.Rigs to use paternosters or a pully pennel cliped down. Bait for the bass is lug or sandeel, bait for the rays sandeel or macky & squid. Also rock on the beach past the carpark.Great for bass, rays, plaice, flounder.Best rig for the rays is a running ledger and a bit flatter sea.Best fishing at night. Hope this helps. All the best marty.

Re: Polzeath north cornwall

Hi All, frankly Polzeath and it's surroundings are a waste of time. Its a very flat beach, smooth sand and hardly any lug showing, it also has a tidal range of about a quarter of a mile but the biggest problem is that there must be about twenty body boarders or surfers for every yard of sand and they are there from dawn to dusk. There are some rocks either side of the main bay and the surrounding coast which look pretty good for wrasse but also looked pretty iffy for the kids to be on. Days fishing=0
It also rained every day and although the tent held out we came home early. All in all not too succesful, but there's always next year!
Regards
Simon
