Mackerel running along Chesil

Conger Kevin and Scott, two friends of mine fished Abbotsbury this week and chucked some feathers out to reel in a few Mackerel!

Can't wait for a little warmer weather, to start the smoker up again!

Mackerel and Horse Raddish MMMmmm.

Re: Mackerel running along Chesil

Well, 12ft Beachcasting rod, fixed spool reel, 15-20lb line. Thats the expensive bit!

Then the tackle:
10x Daylite feathers
10x 3 or 4 oz Torpedo (shaped) Lead Weights

Bits and bobs:
Bucket with 5m of rope attached
Scissors
Filleting Knife
Small wooden chopping board

This is the basic set up you need for Mackerel fishing, from Chesil.
You can these days buy a rod, reel & line altogether.
I say 10x Tackle to save you running out. The first few attempts will see tackle being lost regularly.
I find Daylite Feathers to be the most effective on Chesil, although all the feather types will catch!
Bucket for collecting water without going into the sea. Chesil is very unpredictable and very dangerous. Never enter the water, Unless you have to!
Scissors to save you from damaging your teeth when cutting the line.
Filleting Knife to gut the fish on the beach, alot cleaner than at home.
Chopping board to save your knife from the stone!

Allways have fun, when fishing, but stop when you got enough and try to put the smaller ones back!

Good luck
Elliot

P.S. Listen to others, everybody is full of good advice!
