Talking Brixham Breakwater shore fishing meet

Brixham Breakwater shore fishing meet - Brixham Breakwater shore fishing meet 2nd October – Well the Brixham meet day arrived and the old alarm clock went off at 5.15am

A cup of coffee and a quick check of my fishing kit and I was heading down the M5 to meet Old Smoothound.

7.00am and I met Old Smoothound in the car park so we could just take one car down and save a few quid on petrol , we both looked at each other as only anglers can do “ what the hell are we doing here this early “

The journey down to Brixham breakwater only took 1.5hrs and we arrived

Parking at the break water was £7.00 for all day and I think £3.60 for 4 hrs. There is a café next to the car park but was not open at 8.30am. At the car park we meet Simon and started the walk to the last 1/3rds of Brixham breakwater which must be about ¾ of a mile so travel light or buy yourself a fishing trolley. ( side note - the car park is small and will only take about 40 cars so during the summer months you would have to get there very early to stand any chance of getting parked )

We arrived at the end of Brixham breakwater which is a flat concrete structure with boulders on each side going out about 20yrds. It is a very comfortable fishing

So I fished two rods both on pulley rigs –

One rig with size 2 circle hook / rag tipped with squid / 4oz lead

Second rig 0/3 worm hook / 3 rag threaded up using a bait needle and tipped with squid / 4oz lead

Other rigs used on the day

Float – sea float fished about 5 foot deep , fishing with rag or mackeral on the drop (Gar fish and mackerel)

Other baits

Rag – caught well

Live sand eel – did not produce which was strange as the was a lot of bait fish spotted

Squid – mainly used to tip the rag worm (helps keep the worm on the hook)
Mackerel – Fresh and frozen – worked for the gar fish cut in slim strips about the size of your little finger, silver side the best

The fishing started strong and we were soon getting good rattles on our rod tips and fish coming over the breakwater.

Through out the first hour more and more fishing forum members arrived. Smiles and laughter soon started to fill the area

We all fished from 30 – 90 yards out and found that the ground is quite rough, so if you fish the Brixham breakwater at the end you will loose a lot of gear

The weather took a dip and the wind soon made it very hard to detect bites so a lot of the guys switched to float fishing and targeted the garfish with great success

About 4 -5 o’clock we all called it a day. Big thumbs up to the day, thanks Simon for the day. Also thank you to everyone who turned up

Guys if you have anything to add about your day just post below ( your rigs , tips or useful info )
