ChaosinDevon will become famous soon enough
Cool Re: catching mackerel for bait - feathers

A trick i learnt in Canada, which works flippin well, is to attach a 5oz spinner or spinnow to the end of the feathers instead of a weight, apply the same reeling technique, the advantage being that Bass follow mackerel and may go for the spinner, this happened to me out there, 6 mackerel and one Bass, cant be bad eh ?

Re: catching mackerel for bait - feathers

thats something which i have never thought about but it sounds brilliant! i dont feather for mackerel for fun unless im desperate for bait - i much prefer targetting single mackerel with very light tackle! but when the enhanced oppurtunity of picking out a big bass is presented to me my interest has increased! shame this season is over :-(
