Re: Devon Meet - Saturday 2nd October 2004

Hey Tommy,
Looking forward to meeting up ashore, it will happen sometime. You still on for the 21st? Gonna get down early, do you need sandeels? The big fish show this time of year so could be good. Could, Doesn't that word mean so much?
Going out friday to test the water, Bit scared by taking out 2 forum guys and not finding fish! Got an electrical probem on boat so sounder not working. Need to follow you!

Cheers, Jules

Re: Devon Meet - Saturday 2nd October 2004

Jules,

Dont say that - we are doomed - last time we caught bugger all bass but shed loads of makeral - this time I want bass !! Was going to bring along a plug - rapala I think to try as well - what do you reckon ?

Yes please live sandeel would be great - I owe you for last time as well so Ill give you a tenner next Tuesday.

Talking of problems - my fishfinder went mad last time and clapped out even though its new. I just hope its working again or we are stuck fishing in the same place !! and we wont get home cause we'll probably run aground !!

See you Tuesday - work permitting !!

Re: Devon Meet - Saturday 2nd October 2004

Tommy,
Oh dear.
One of us needs to have a sounder!
Just checked tide and its 11.30 am so only top of tide can be fished. I can get out at 9 but need to be back by 2pm latest so wrecking looks like its out, unless we do the Galacia and orestone doesn't look good with such a short trip. Guess it's ok for those with big engines! Have had a few bass but even tho I've used the famed J13 I've never caught one on it. Best lure I have is 4 inch strip of metal.
No probs with sandeels and dredger out tuesday......YEAH. Got 7 last time out so looking forward to friday, locked on to target....8. Next tuesday...double figures...either amount or weight..
Shame about the 2nd but hey, it'll happen.
Best regards, Jules.

Re: Devon Meet - Saturday 2nd October 2004

Jules,

Thtas no worries either way mate - we may end up steaming out to the wreck cause we aint on a return time unless its rough !! But if we stay by the Orestone is there any good pollack areas - Ive got a real thing for landing a few decent pollack as I aint caught any this year - got any top spots !!

That is - more reliable than the infamous bass that we never caught .........

Re: Devon Meet - Saturday 2nd October 2004

Tommy,
You want to be sea side of the orestone and anchor up within a hundred yards of it. Looks a bit fearsome up close but not had any problems. Very rough ground so you may lose some end gear. Be careful pulling up your anchor! No full throttle and pray, it can get stuck and take some getting out, is your chain attached to bottom of anchor with weak link at top? Best way.
Pollack, wrasse and conger are main species, Sandeel or good old mack are best baits but fished hard on bottom.
Looks like my trip tomorrow is gonna be blown out!
Cheers, Jules

Re: Devon Meet - Saturday 2nd October 2004

if you have a sounder on there is a wreck out the back of the orestone its only a trawler wreck but it does hold the bigger eels and such.
i think if memory serves me correctly its berry head side of the rock but another 100 yards out to sea from hopesnose
