Lures from Piers Been fishing 3 times since I got my rod.Caught one mackerel so far(don't laugh,I was chuffed to get that I was looking on E-Bay and saw all these lures for sale. Can you use them from piers?Wht do you do,just cast them with a weight on and leave or do you have to move them like mackerel feathers? If you can use from piers what's the best to start with? Thanks, Trevor

Re: Lures from Piers There's quite a few questions here, so i will try to answer one at a time. One Mackerel is a damn good start. Black Lug usually sold frozen. After being dug, suppliers will gut it and then freeze. I tend to use this for winter cod etc. Keep in a cool box when fishing as it will soon spoil. Try fishing with ragworm at the moment and buy a baiting needle if you havent done so already. Makes a nice clean job of putting the bait on the hook. Move the bait away from the burgers!! Worm/bait not good next to food for human consumption, nor will be the bait stinking of the onion in the burgers etc!! Keeps Mum/Missis happy too. Lures like the 'Rapala's' on ebay are a good price. All but the old style mackerel spinners, you will notice that most lures/pluge etc are weighted. So in general, there is no need to add weight. Plugs come in various weights, sizes and can be floating, sinking and diving. So buy a lure that will suit where your likely to be fishing. I like to fish using lures and plugs as close to the water surface as possible, around the rocks etc, but you must do this safely. Dont go rock hopping alone and watch out for the rising tide and swell. Me personaly, except for spinning on my local breakwater, I would tend to stick to ledgering/bottom fishing or float fishing on a pier. Hope this helps ya mate.

Re: Lures from Piers when spinning or using lures its best to be as close to the water as you can get so if the pier if high it wont be very good __________________ New site! sea fishing devon

Re: Lures from Piers I was fishing this wkd on skye all i got was a load o mackerel and a couple o very small pollock. i find that jelly worms work most of the time for pollock. If you are goin to skye to fish you should try Niest Point on the north west. It is a bit o a walk but worth it wen you get the big pollock and loads o mackerel.
