Maurice is on a distinguished road
equipment.

Got myself a pair of 14' rods reels and a tripod but a bit unsure of what else would be needed. As most of the fishing spots would involve a walk from the car to them and I don't want to be weighed down like a pack mule. The question is what would be the minimum equipment needed for a good day fishing.

Re: equipment.

As Ive mentioned before I use a trolly with 2 rod rest fastened to the handle thereby doing away with the need for a tripod. This is not everyones cup of tea as in rocky areas it would be hopeless. but the seat being removable it doubles up as a seat for my weary bones

Re: equipment.

Given that you've got the rods/reels/tripod, I'll list the contents of my rucksack from last night Maurice.
  • A select of leads - about 8 in total.
  • My rig wallet, with about 10 rigs mostly pulley pennels.
  • Link clips, for leader -> rigs connection.
  • Spare leader mono.
  • 6" fillet knife (Well, one day I *might* catch a decent fish!)
  • Chopping board.
  • Cool bag with bait.
  • Pliers.
  • Bait knife.
  • Sissors.
  • Baiting needle.
  • Head torch.
  • Tip lights/star lights and method of attachment.
  • Bait towel.

And most important of all, my flask full of hot coffee. A hip flask of something medicinal is optional.

You can take a LOT more gear, and it's really tempting to do so, but like you say, you'll end up like a pack mule. I reckon this is a good ballance bewtween taking what you need to keep you fishing and travelling light. Of course, I'm guaranteed to forget at least one of the above items, and this is when fishing with a more organised friend comes in REALLY handy.

Daaaaaaaave, you haven't got any micropore tape you don't need do you????

Re: equipment.

much the same as baggierich
may take more leads if i'm fishing a rottom bottom or when i know the seabed is hungry...most the time you don't have to worry about how heavy your tackle is on the way home mind as youv'e flung most of it 130 yards out into the drink.
i would also take a small tackle box full of odds and sods, swivels, snaps, beads, bait shields hooks

Ah yes. How could I forget? Also, when you go to the tackle shop to buy a roll, get another whilst you're there to replace the first when you lose it on the beach. Every time..... Grrrr.

good answer mate - but whether or not you'll find elastic beer is debatable...
