bass bait size??

hi, got another question
goingg fishing today and gonna try to catch some bass cause the tides aint right for smoothies and just got back from tackle shop and they have run out of all bait apart from mackerel,limpits and launce so i got 2 packs of macky
also got some size 3/0 cox & rawle aberdeen hooks to fish half a mackerel, for bass
but my question is would fishing with half a mackerel limit the bass which i could catch, what i mean is would a small bass be able to fit half a mackerel in its mouth or do i need to make the bait smaller
they aint masive macky anyway but i would still like to be sure

Hi Ben, I'm pretty sure that any bass worth catching would have a go at half a mackerel, they've got huge mouths and even bigger appetites.

i was just wondering cause a big bass would be brilient but i would rather catch small bass than no bass

cut a fillet down the centre lengthways that way it will look more like a sandeel and only put the hook through twice otherwise you'll end up with a bunched up mess on your hook.

loads about chasing little fish again
seeing this reminded me that some1 on here said they catch those little fish on a small hook with bread, is it as simple as that??

well im just gonna try to catch the lil fish for live bait, if not i could always catch some lil rud n roach for live bait from the pond/nature reserve next 2 where the bass are

We've caught bass in the boat on live mackerel and I've had them off the shore with the smallest bit of manky ragworm you can imagine-I think it all depends on if the fish is hungry or not.I've also had them float fishing a mackerel head,and bottom fishing with a mackerel head for conger.
