how to present a crab i am after some advise regarding peeler crab. i am looking to do some bass fishing over the weekend around the Gower. what i would like to know is some advice on the best way to present a crab to the bass. i have read some articles in guys cutting them in half and using lots of elastic, others using trebble hooks and some use the hole crab. if i am using say a 4/0 hook with a hole crab, which would be the best way to hook it to ensure it stays on and looks appealing/natural to the fish. thankyou for any feedback.

Re: how to present a crab i would think for to hook it through the legs mate and all the way through the body, obviously you will be peeling it first? then you would need to use bait elastic as it will be just too soft for to stand any casting. not huge anounts of the stuff just enough for to keep it on the hook.

Re: how to present a crab I`m no expert mate but I understand that fish are mostly attracted to the scent of the bait rather than its appearance. So peeling it and lashing it to the hook shank is the way to go. Having said that, I float fished half an edible softie in Padstow once and bagged a 4lb Bass on that. That one was just cut in half and the hook was passed through it once, then gently lobbed about 10ft out off the rocks. The rest was left to chance...it worked though. __________________ Andy. ------------------- Treat each day as your last, one day you`ll be right.

Re: how to present a crab this site shows how to peel a crab http://web.ukonline.co.uk/aquarium/d...eelercrab.html then its deciding wether want a whole or half a crab hooking through 1 leg socket helps, along with the essential bait elastic hope this helps __________________ Rapidly becomeing a serial blanker www.exmouthsaa.co.uk I have the body of a God, Pity its Buddha :-0

Re: how to present a crab I cut mine down the middle 3/4 of the way (if that makes sense), then fold it around the shank of the hook and then secure with the bait elastic. I always use a whole crab, just easier for me I suppose Rob

Re: how to present a crab something you might find useful is to unwrap a paper clip and wind the wire around the shank of the hook up by the eye, leave a tag of about 10mm pointing upwards and away from the hookpoint. i gently crush the crab and then wrap it up in elastic. once wrapped i put a small part of it on the hook point then pull it round and spear it on the paper clip tag, then add a little more elastic. from Veals you can get the varivas extra wide gape hooks, 4/0 and 6/0, from veals they are the ones to use. sounds more complicated than it is!!! good luck

Re: how to present a crab that would be the way to go. i would use 2 small crabs, 1 medium crab or half a large crab. all tied on with elastic. it might be worth trying live gobies or the like (i think it's rocky there isn't it?) or a live jelly/ softy lightly whiped on with elastic.
