I been thinking of giving the heddon crazy crawler a go at night Pyro, lot of surface movement with that.
What's your opinion? Have you used it before in the dark?

Re: night lure bass fishing!

I like that one... I haven't personally caught much on it but I know some guys who have. It's a great evening and nighttime bait!

Worth a go on a calm clear night i reckon mate, sure the pollack will come and have a go at that too. Just waiting for the weather to settle a bit!

Re: night lure bass fishing!

There's a lot of stuff that could easily have a go at it. Over here, the Crazy Crawler is mostly used for black bass (usually the largemouth species, which average a couple pounds but documented to 25) and muskellunge (a very large species of pike rumored to reach 100 pounds but only documented to 69).

Re: night lure bass fishing!

Hi, I regularly SWFF in the dark, mainly dusk into darkness and darkness to dawn. The bass don't have any difficulty "seeing" and hitting my fly, even small sand eel type patterns of only 1.5" and 2" long. I usually fish black patterns, as I'm a believer in the "silhouette" theory, allthough I think their lateral line plays a big part by picking up vibration caused by moving prey. With this in mind, I don't think a bass would have any difficulty detecting/seeing a plug.

I catch mullet in the dark on size 12 flies and when I lived in Derbyshire, I used to fish from dusk untill well into darkeness on the Derwent for trout and grayling. I used size 18/20 and sometimes smaller, nymphs and dries.

All I can say is a fish's eyesight must be incredible!

Cheers Dave

Re: night lure bass fishing!

I add luminous beads to my spinners when making them , very effective for all species in the dark , bass are no exception
i use spinners for them in the dark and have had great success
while fishing in pitch black conditions
