Bass Nurseries

Can anyone tell me how I can find out areas that are designated as bass nurseries and the restrictions on fishing in these areas? Fancy fighting a few bass soon but not at the expense of a fine.

Re: Bass Nurseries

Pompey harbour is a bass nursery but it doesnt stop small boats gill netting out on the mud flats.
The sad thing is nothing ever gets done about it.

Re: Bass Nurseries

I think you will find the gill netting for the bass will happen wherever you go, and like you said no one even tries to stop it.But if us anglers get caught catching a bass in a nursery area it is the end of the world and a hefty fine to go with it

Re: Bass Nurseries

Thanks guys. So, it's "17.River Avon, Devon All tidal waters enclosed by a line drawn 206° true from Warren Point at Bigbury-on-Sea to Burgh Island, and a line drawn 090° true from the southern tip of Burgh Island to the coast". That clears it up then! I was hoping to fish light but it looks like I'm going to be lugging a theodolite around with me. "Actually, I was fishing at 206 degrees 0 minutes 1 second true from Warren Point Mr. Fisheries Inspector" .

Re: Bass Nurseries

It also says...The prohibition on bass fishing in nursery areas does not apply to fishing from the shore. However it is expected that shore anglers and their associations will respect the need for this prohibition and return to the sea any bass caught within nursery areas.
