South Wales??

Hey guys & gals!! I'm currently living Devon but am planning a trip to see my sister and her husband in Southern Wales (They live in PontyPridd, Rhondda valley), and I really REALLY want to catch a bass! I've been fishing a fair bit in Devon on the south coast and have thoroughly enjoyed it! I've caught a load of Mackerel and the odd Pollock but I've still yet to sink my line into the legendary sea bass

I'm basically looking for some general advice on how to catch a bass but more importantly I want to know some good places to go in South Wales not too far from where I'll be staying.

Just so you've got something to work with i'll let you know how i've been fishing up to now. I have a 10 ft rod that I mainly use dexter wedges on. I use the occaisional rig of feathers but I typically prefer the wedge. I only use a 15lbs line but I use a 30 lbs runner just to prevent the easy snap in my line. When I go to Wales I'll try my best to fish in the morning and evenings so as to cover all the best times. I've never really used any bate merely because I've never really tried that style of fishing. I've heard people raving on about rag worms and peeler crab but if at all possible I'd prefer sticking with a wedge or plug. Are there any places the fish are biting on wedges? Thanks a load guys, tight lines!

Re: South Wales??

If you want to stick to lure fishing the gower is best ,especially worms head ,tides can be dangerous around the worm ,so be carefull

Re: South Wales??

Thanks so much! Are there bass there then, pollock? What can I expect? Would you favour a lure or a plug? I'll only be there for a long weekend so I'd like to properly optimise my fishing experience :) Any other locations advice is welcome. Nice one guys

Re: South Wales??

Just got back from my weekend in Wales and I have to say I loved it! I caught my very first Bass and it was a good 6lbs!!! I ended up going to the worms head like you suggested and it was just beautiful there. Just wondering what side you usually fish from, and if there are any hot spots you know of there as my 6 pounder was the only one I caught. Just wondered if I was doing something wrong? Thanks again.
