| Hello all First of all, my apologies if this has been asked before (though I briefly checked though this forum and could find anything) or my question appears naive. I am new to this forum, but to give you a bit of background, I am primarily a freshwater lure angler, mainly fishing rivers for pike, chub etc and fly fishing (after a fashion) for trout and pike. I was fortunate enough to fish with an experienced bass angler wading in the Jersey surf recently which has inspired me to look more seriously into this type of fishing. Admittedly he was using a Tenryu rod which is way beyond my budget. What I'm after is some advice on more of a specialist rod than the ones I was using (a 9ft Daiwa Wilderness 20-50g [too heavy] and a 9ft Shimano 10-30g Exage telescopic TEXBXMTS27M [too ‘floppy’]) that can cast lures into the wind so a fast action rod would be preferred but with some back bone to bend into and bully a fish away from ‘trouble’. Ideally it should be 9 or 10ft, have a shortish handle and a cw around 10-40g It must be a travel rod of 4 or more pieces I am looking to couple it with a 3000 or 4000 Shimano reel, spooled with 20lb braid (probably Whiplash Crystal) Budget is up to around £120 I have been looking at the 9 and 10ft lighter weight rods in this series http://www.soniksports.com/products/...k4-travel-spin Questions being, if you have experience of these rods, will the 9 foot (15-30g) handle 40g lures (ie is it under rated); and/or will the 10ft (18-40g) cast 20g lures (eg Tackle House Feed Shallow 128) the 40 or so metres I am after. If anyone can offer me some advice on these rods or recommend something else more suitable, I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance Ben |

| Re: Lure rod advice please I mostly use Daiwa and Shakespeare rods in the 6-7 foot range for lure-fishing. I've found that this is the perfect length for rivers, especially when there are a lot of overhanging trees. __________________ 2012 species: 13 All-time species: 65 New species caught in 2012: white sucker, popeye shiner, white shiner |

For clarification, I'm referring to the 'sea' bass off of the British and European coasts, wading into the waves and trying to cast beyond the fourth or fifth wave coming in. |

| Re: Lure rod advice please Yeah, I know what you mean by bass (we have a similar species over here), and I completely understand what you mean about the wife. I have one of those too... I've done well with that length fishing lures in the Pamlico Sound off North Carolina as well, for drum (which are very similar to bass) and seatrout. __________________ 2012 species: 13 All-time species: 65 New species caught in 2012: white sucker, popeye shiner, white shiner |
