hi
i live in warsash near southampton and took up sea fishing about a yr ago. ever since i have gone fishing nearly every week end in the same place and have caught about 7 flounder all just big enough and 1 bass about 5inc!!! every one else who goes fishing here seems to catch hundreds of fish and bass i have usualy been using a simple 1 up 1 down rig with rag worm of some times squid(which is what every one else is doing and in the same place as me) i was wondering if anyone could give me some advice because its getting quite depresing now every one else is catching fish apart from me

 HELLO BEN,TOPE HERE.SO I SEE YOU ARE DIFFICULTYS IN CATCHING BASS FROM THE SHORE.FIRST OF CAN I ASK YOU HOW FAR CAN YOU CAST,THIS IS VERY INPORTENT WHEN FISHING FOR BASS,WHAT SIZE HOOKS DO YOU USE,WHAT BREAKING STRAIN LINE ARE USING.BASS ARE ONE OF MY FAVOURITE FISH TO CATCH AND EAT.I FISH FROM A BOAT OR FROM THE SHORE.WHEN I AM FISHING FROM THE SHORE,I ALWAYS MAKE SURE THAT THE WATER IS ROUGH AND COLOURED.WHY IS THIS I HEAR YOU ASK.WELL WHEN THE WATER IS ROUGH IT STIRS UP THE BOTTOM,EXPOSING SHELLFISH,WORMS AND SHRIMPS.THE RIG IS SIMPLE,I USE A PENNEL PULLEY RIG,THE IS EITHER FRESH PEELER CRAB OR WHOLE SQUID,CASTING TOWARDS THE SECOND OR THIRD WAVE BREAKING.IF I AM FISHING FROM A PIER OR JETTY,I WOULD USE LIVE PRAWNS,SMALL LIVE POUTING,WORMS,SQUID,CRAB,FEATHERS OR SPINNERS.NOW IF I AM USING POUTING,WORMS,CRAB OR SQUID I WOULD HAVE DOWN THE SIDE OF THE WALL ABOUT 2-3FT OF THE SIDE.I DID THIS LAST YEAR FISHING OF RAMSGATE HARBOUR AND CAUGHT A 16LB 7oz BASS ON A 8INCH POUTING.GIVE THESE BAITS A TRY.TRY AND FISH WHEN THE WATER IS ROUGH THIS WOULD HELP,AND CAST IN SHALLOW.I HOPE THIS WILL HELP YOU.IF YOU WANT SOME MORE INFORMATION PLEASE SEND A MESSAGE.

thanks for your help, i have been casting out as far as i can which nearly emptys my reel which is shakespear long caster so there is plenty of line. i will have to give those b8s and methods a try. the line is also thick im guessing about 30 pound, the hooks i have been using have usualy been size 1/0 i think, i just buy my rigs from a shop and use them as they are usualy. i think i must be casting out to far in that case
thanks
