Hi Ben
The fake sand eels you are talking about are for boat fishing on the drift and are fished on a flying collar rig with a twelve to fifteen foot trace, usually over wrecks or rough ground, they will take bass, pollack cod. and granddaddy pout, having said that we use firetail jelly worms which for some reason out fish them considerably.
At this time of the year try fishing a small pout or poor cod livebait on a 6ft. trace from the beach, you will have to catch them first, so it might be an idea to fish two rods one with the livebait on, and one for the live bait (this should keep you busy)

regards gus.

hi ben
the fake sandeels are called eddystone eels I fail to see how they could work correctly off a beach any swell would cause them to collapse i.e. tail round line unless you were retriving at a fast pace so you would need to cast along way to make them worthwhile trying. take up boat fishing mate we don't get the problems and we get bigger fish!!!!!!!!!!!!

regards gus

Hello ben am i right in thinking that u still have had no luck just I live in guernsey in the channel islands we get a lot of bass here so i might be able to help you a little bit try this .....Firstly if you have two rods take them to the beach cast one to the horizon and one (im not joking) 10/15 yards out bass come up the beach but in damp dark days and nights they come right in with the surf so just try lobbing one in just beyond the breakers , either use running ledgers on both rods or one two hook flapper rig with two small baits and one running ledger with a nice big load of rag or lugworm these are the best bass baits from a clean beach.
just make sure that you have allowed a bit of drag on your reel as these fish run when they are hooked in the shallows. also anywhere there is mullet in my experiance there is bass small schoolies follow them into the shallows . Now dont think there will only be schoolies close in the other night me and a friend were fishing on a local beach when he had a birds nest in his multiplier so he put his rod down in a right mood and had a cup of tea (it was night) his bait had landed about 25 foot away from the shore next thing his rod flew of the tripod and five hectic minutes later he landed a 10 pound 13 oz bass so keep trying matey and u will suss them out in the end

kenny is on a distinguished road
hello mate, my names ken i live in fareham and i spend nearly all my time bass fishing so im sure i can help.
I do most of my bass fishing in the estuaries, ie hambe fareham creek, and langstone.
My tacticts r real simple. i use a standard ledger 12lb amnesia about 4 ft long to a 3/0 kamasan.
I buy a 5lb box of squid and use the head as the hook bait. My killer tactic is to ground bait squid every 45 mins i cut two squid into about 12 pieces and launch them in.
I promise you this will work as almost all the bass i have caught have had the groundbait in them when i have gutted them.Sometimes 10 pieces.
My best of last summer was 7.5 lb and my best ever is 9
If you want more help your welcome to e mail me at Kenwaan@ntlworld.com Happy to help
