Bass Fishing In Teignmouth

Hello, Im new to all this, ive seen that you are all looking for good bass marks, luckily i dont have to go far. i would like to share with you some of my favourite marks on the river teign.

1= Teignmouth/Shaldon Bridge
Really you are not allowed to fish here anymore, but this law has not stopped anyone. The place to fish is on or near the 3rd lamp post from the Teignmouth side of the bridge, either side, depending on the tide. The biggest Bass from here that I have seen was just over 12lbs

2 = Salty
The best time to fish this is just when it is uncovering, chest waders are essential! People fish this place day in day out with very good results. The best place to fish is towards the bridge, but particularly by the last mooring near the bridge.

3= Polly Steps
Again, the outgoing tide is great, fishing anywhere along pollysteps will provide good catches. Biggest I have seen here is a 9lb fish.

4= Fish Quay
This is probably, my favourite mark in the river, this produces fish in august on whole sprat casting up river.

5= Back Beach
Right outside where they sell live sandeel, you will catch loads of schoolie bass, great fun to catch with the odd 3lb fish turning up

6= Shaldon Lighthouse
Low tide mark only, fishing along side a strong current and a wall.

All these places, Will catch you fish from june –july onwards, the methods they use is just free lining a live sandeel, simple but very effective. The live sandeel should be coming around in April, but I will let you know when this happens.

The biggest bass i have seen been caught on the River was a huge 14lbs, last year alone there where several caught over 10lbs, Im still hoping, but i still enjoy the fun of the little ones. Great sport on light gear.

I have got a picture indicating where all the marks are, but i cant seem to include it, anyways, Good Luck and Tight Lines

Now what a great 1st post to start with. Top marks!!

I've not fished Teignmouth before and if you wouldn't mind showing me the places when the fish arrive I'd be more than happy to show you around the Bay.

Welcome aboard

Welcome to the forum

Great post, wish I lived around Devon, as you seem to have so many good marks down there.

I think when I've retired, I'll move to Devon, long way off yet though

Thumbs up Re: Bass Fishing In Teignmouth

Wicked post mate very impressive.

Word of warning to all though - the River Exe and Teign are I believe bass breeding grounds - well protected anyway. If you are going to fish them thats your choice but be warned the fine is big and you could have your gear taken.

Speaking to Jules last year we were drifting on the ebb out of Teingmouth but if you then catch the incoming tide you are in the *hite and will be caught. Live snadeel are strictly banned !

I have every intention of fishing for bass but I for one wont fish for them in either estuary otherwise we are NO better than the trawlers - albeit on a smaller scale. there are plenty of other legal marks .................

Re: Bass Fishing In Teignmouth

Tommy Ive fished from the beach on the tiegn and there arent any signs saying that there should be no fishing for BASS, infact there arent any signs at all on the river.
Where did you get your info from as I plan to fish there a lot in a couple of months.

Wink Re: Bass Fishing In Teignmouth

Hi Pixy,

Well to be honest mate Im not 100% sure on the Teign but for Exmouth its the same - no bloody signs but def banned ! I thinks its the live sandeel that are the problem - cause they are used primarily for bass.

Your first defence is the fact that there are no signs but I have been told ( by someone who was caught ) that if you are caught the fine can be as high as a grand.

I agree it seems ridiculous not to have any signs and maybe it aint that checked but for sure the river Exe is a protected area and Im sure the Teign is as well. Jules will hopefully confirm this as he had a long chat to the authorities last year.

Ill try and get hold of him and let you know.
