Re: bass in plymouyh

I was under the impression that Bass fishing was banned from boat in the River Tamar, but in the Sound it may not.

Probably best to get info from the Harbour Master or a local Angling club or Tackle shop.

Re: bass in plymouyh

Penlee Point is a great spot just on the other side of the river near Cawsand. The whole of Cawsand bay can be good too. I have never heard of Bass fishing being banned in the eastury but been a few yrs since I took my boar out around there.
Usually if it's not blowing too hard 1up ht 1down off the seaward side of the breakwater is a good spot. There is a good sand bar east of this mark close to the miltary firing range close to a big rock a good few 100yrd out near Fort Bovisand and around heybrook bay are good too.

Hope this helps :)

Re: bass in plymouyh

That's really good news mate!
Not many people fish that far up the estuary these days, there used to be some really good marks around the bridge area from both sides of the river.
The most notable I can remember was fishing off the pier on the Saltash side right next to the yacht club, opposite that pub that used to be painted as a massive union jack.
What states of the tides were you fishing, I know from experience that the run is super fast here, so I presume you fished it only at full ht?

Re: bass in plymouyh

There are a few spots close to the bridge mate.
The first one I think is (was) probably the best is the Tamar River Sailing Club, I think that's the name on the Plymouth side. Not sure if you can still fish here but you used to be allowed onto the sailing club's pontoon. Some big Mullet there and Bass 'a plenty this time of the year.

If you go down James Street down Mount Wise way next to the navy base, keep going until the road stops at the estuary in a small carpark with a concrete pontoon, all around there is good for Bass and flatties. Or it was 7 years ago!

Some great Conger fishing down Mount Batten further down at night mate, I know it's getting further away but the fishing used to be better in the Sound or further out and a boat makes all the difference!

Let me know how you get on it would be good to know any of those marks still fishes well

Re: bass in plymouyh

In that case mate, I would go to penlee point, I dunno if you drive but it's still probably the best bass mark in the area. Rocky ground there though, not fished for bass there with bait but plugging there is great. Use the 28g dexters mostly there, get ya lob on!
