| Re: Bass - when are they around? hi crumpled, we always get some nice bass from the coast around thanet (ramsgate, margate, broadstairs). the chalk ledges at low water with peeler always produce but beware it can be very snaggy!!! sandwich bay shallows usually throws up some nice bass in the summer months as does all the promenades around the thanet coast on night high tides. the school bass are really starting to show up around this area in larger numbers latelly and as it gets warmer and the crabs peel the better fish should arive. hope this is some help.      |

Hi crumpled, Autumn's my favourite time for them september/october you tend to get the bigger one's as they run down south, it's my personal favourite time of the year to fish you get that buzz of excitment as you wait for your rod to go crazy. I think most of the marks have already been covered really, i think half the challenge and fun is finding new marks yourself! |

| Re: Bass - when are they around? Thanks guys. I agree that finding good spots is definitely half the fun. Generally, I do lure fishing from the shore and have had variable success. Very satisfying when it works. I want to try beach casting this year. Any tips on equipment and rigs? I have a particular spot near Polzeath, Cornwall in mind, and I'm sure it will deliver. |

| Re: Bass - when are they around? Never fished in cornwall so can't help you there fella, am going to newquay in august so will have a crack myself then. I have never lure fished from the shore for bass but am going to give it a crack this year, am starting to think about buying a rod and reel now mate, can't wait to start getting into it. |

Hi Crumpled, I just use my trout fly rods and make up some long silver and white flies. sinking lines as I fish quite shallow water over sandbanks, so no lead core lines are needed. Even small bass give a hell of a fight and a mackerel will bend your rod double.....if only someone would tell them to swim in a straight line guys would flock from around the world to fish for them!!!! The big difference in saltwater flyfishing is your flies don't last very long because of the salt...don't risk a corroded one, just retie a few. | Re: Bass - when are they around? Went fishing at the beginning of June in Cornwall, near Polzeath and saw an amazing sight. About 50 yards of shore the water was boiling. I cast a lure right into the middle of it and loads of fish leapt out of the water. My mate hooked a small bass, but apart from a few knocks we didn't manage to hook any more. The water was like a mill pond and we could see loads of activity. Very exciting. Unfortunately we had to set off home to London, so we didn't have much time to exploit it. Has anyone else seen activity like this and if so, was it likely that there were some good sized fish amongst them? We also bagged a few nice pollack at Pentire Point. What a fantastic coastline! I envy you guys who have easy access to these places. |

| Re: Bass - when are they around? yes, i agree with you mate,i had a great time in cornwall last summer and am gutted we are not going this year. one thing that amazed me was the clarity of the water,after fishing all my life in the english channel and getting used to a visibility of a couple of feet all of a sudden being able to see the bottom in 20 foot of water was wonderful |
