| Re: gower bass Hook size has only one real importance when choosing mate, and that is the size of the bait ..A 1/0 hook will still catch a double figure bass but if you found you were missing a lot of takes its probably because the the bait was too big for the hook ( masking the point no doubt )..Bass have massive gobs so i expect it was actually the smaller fish hitting the bait away from the hook point - you get a huge whack even from an 8 oz fish !! If you were fishing on the bottom with crab or squid i would say a 3/0 wide gaped hook - pennel rigged if need be or size 2/0 for rag bait .. just remember dont bunch worms too far up the hook snood as the fish will eat them from the end without the hook and dont bury the point in the squid , mackerel or any other bait ![]() Steve __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting |
