| Hello to all of you collecting peeler crab , finding them , kill them and peel them is certainly not a pleasant job and finding peelers can take hours... Hence, i bought deepfrozen peelers in the tackle shop , 5 euros for 4 , a pride of a price .... Needless to say , they did not make any difference in the catching rate , the juice ran out after defrosting and hooking and threading them.they did not look realy inviting if i were a bass.... Went back to my regular deepfrozen SANDEEELS and had a big , 7,5 lbs bass yesterday out of the surf and here my surprise , his stomach was full with CRABS , 6 of them , between 1 and 2 inches in diameter BUT not one of them was peeled but were all hardback! Question , can the bass that easily digest the hard shell ? and why bather for peelers if the hardbacks , regular craps are their normal diet ?? Has anyone had a similar experience or is this only possible for the tough Irish Bass ? appreciate your comments .. thanks CRIMOR |

| Re: Peeler Crab ?? No need for peelers ? Is the attraction of peeler not more to do with the extra scent it put's out as opposed to hardback. Bass will take a hardback sure, but they will pick up the scent of a peeler from further out and home in on it? Just a theory.... ![]() __________________ Be mindful of your optimism young padawan. | Re: Peeler Crab ?? No need for peelers ? The aniseed smell of a peeler is the thing that really gets them going. It makes sense though that if they Do see a hardback and can swallow it they will. Just harder for them to find I guess. Still I reckon live sandeel runs peeler a close second. Day work for barbel though :[] __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk |

| Re: Peeler Crab ?? No need for peelers ? A crab about to peel takes on more water to split its shell and produces more scent. A fish can most of the time take hard backs and spit the hard shell if your hook dets mixed up with that shell it goes as well. This time of year we would be using edible peelers and clams on gower beaches as that is usually what the fish expect to find (hard back edibles, clams etc) but if they certainly do home in on the peelers and do seem to take them in prefference. |
