Re: Peeler Crab ?? No need for peelers ?

Spot on kkk, and baggierich, a lot off anglers dont know the difference btween a prime peeler and a bullet. A bullet is a crab you might buy in a tackle shop and its useless, a fish ie a bass might take it but an anger who knows the difference wont pay for it, put it this way the scent that comes off it when prime, but as kkk said read last line, is proof i know last year i had in november many bass on prime peeler but 4 casts 4 bass on a one snood rig, as it was on a rock mark i used a pennel pulley rig, but remember guys not just the bait and traces weather and wind direction and most of all reading the tide thats the maine key to bass success, and most fishing is done without succes by that very reason. One other thing looking after crab i say crab bcause unless your fishing straight away you wont be buying peelers but crab that will. Had 2 bass last night thats 10 bass on prime peeler, in few nights fishing. Tight lines and hope you all catch plenty. Other baits will catch rag, sandeel. mackerel etc but my favourite is crab that end up with a lot of looking after prime peeler. Chow. Paul.

Re: Peeler Crab ?? No need for peelers ?

bass, fish in general will all and do eat normal hardbacks

but peeler does give off a certain scent, pheromones i think that is a big fish attractor

peeler is deadly at certain times of the year....the same as for a short period softies fish better

the fish just get tuned into to a certain bait, at a certain time .......a peeler thats hard(bullet) will catch

they are just a pain to peel , the winter bassing on the iow has kicked off big time , will do a thread with some pics just to show you

at the mo the humble squid is catching

Re: Peeler Crab ?? No need for peelers ?

bk not pk

i tend to use crab around the rough stuff and mixed ground

day or night, when the bass are on the hunt there isnt alot to put them off

clear water in daylight can fish but a bit of colour is usually more reliable

summer sees all manner of baits work ,but as a good good each way bet crab and lugworm take some beating especially at the ends of the year

on the iow bass are a year round fish and by being flexible in the approach large fish 8lb ish can be taken year round

dont be afraid to fish very shallow water .......couple foot is all it takes

Re: Peeler Crab ?? No need for peelers ?

Spot on drew,i 4got to say to you my heviest shore caught fish was in africa 3years ago 227lb shark on rod and line and i still cant get good rag bummer or what. I will say this good quility bait weather frozen or fresh is the key but doesnt garantee fish but in matches it bloody well helps when the two boys either side of you in a foot off water have fresh mackerel in november. I had fresh crab nothing caught in 5 hours fishing but 2 guys slaughtering fish every cast. I had fresh one day and won open with 11 good size fish. I know one place all you need is frozen sandeel or and frozen mackerel, another lug lug lug. Drew you will agree bait can make the difference on the right night mate. Still cant get over the size of that eel you caught, owesome mate, as i said highest standard. Paul

Re: Peeler Crab ?? No need for peelers ?

knowledge......bait.......rigs.......then rods n reels

in that order ..........we all like the best gear but without the first 3 its useless ............

its all a means to an end , fish the right place at the right TIME with decent bait for the situation or species targetted on a suitable rig .......doesnt matter what rod and reel ....fish cant see zzippys !!!!!!!

or use the latest greatest rod and reel with rubbish bait on a rubbish rig and compare the results ........whats in the water counts .........skimp on bait - big mistake !!

i say this as i use both top of the range gear and cheapish bass rods and have confidence in both, but never skimp or take short cuts with bait and end gear........

you only get out what you put in long term !!! no amount of cash can buy experience

Re: Peeler Crab ?? No need for peelers ?

I only use peeler or prawn for Bass, peeler is costly in cash terms, prawn is costly in gathering times.

Fish your marks hard and expect to blank, sometimes even give up on them, and try elsewhere.

Effort in = Fish out.

Quality tackle decent rigs, hooks etc

Then rods and reels I have had more Bass and quality fish on a £16 rod than my other more expensive Greys rods.

Basically re itterating on BK's advise.

I have been fishing for nearly 30 years and this year (with a bit of help) I think I am finally getting the hang of it.

Main thing again effort in = fish out, unless you are just plain lucky.
