Re: we want bass

That would be about 35" (if 6'2) thats more the length of a 13-14lb fish bloudy good fish from our area this early, they normally show that sort of size around the end of October/November when most people are cod fishing and getting bitten off by big conger

Re: we want bass

Hi,

Sorry to disappoint but 27 inches converts to 68.5 cm which, on my BASS tape is around 7lb 8oz. That's if you measured to the tip of the tail. If you measured 27 inches to the fork I suppose that would make the fish about another 5cm to the tip, i.e. 73.5 = about 8lb 12oz.

(I say 'about' because the BASS tape has been printed based on averages of many hundreds of fish measurements, and for each length the various fish have varied in girth).

Great fish all the same...

Very much depends on where you live, or where you intend to fish They never go too far away on my patch, and a good blow in January or February is always worth investigating, especially if it brings in good numbers of slipper limpets. But the main season down here starts in MArch with the edible crab peel, peaks at the end of October, but well worth the effort until Mid December. A lot depends on the temperture and conditions however!

Good luck. I spotted some excellent looking ground to the East of Dover harbour when I was last coming in from Calais. Looks like a very good starting point. REmember, at night many many bass are secured from the first 20 yards of water on both shingle and rough stuff...!!
