Re: Babbacombe - Oddicombe Beach

I would just like to add a bit of advice to this thread if i may, many years ago we found that we Anglers were reporting our catches of Bass in the Torbay area to the Paper the Herald Express, after such reports were made we would find Gill netters would move into the area and the fishing would sadly decline very quickly.

Please remember that Bass are in decline because of commercial fishing and greed by unscrupulous profesional anglers.
So please be careful what you publish on these forums as not only anglers who fish for fun read your post's.

Bazzer,,,,, :-)

Re: Babbacombe - Oddicombe Beach

There are certainly too many taking undersize bass - both netters and shore-fishers.

I have fished Babbacombe a few times, and each time have been less than impressed by the filthy mess left by anglers there - bags of rotting fish stink the place out and the litter that gets washed into the harbour from the breakwater is mostly down to anglers. This sort of behaviour gets all of us a bad name and we need to stamp it out.

Last time I was there, a couple of women used a bloodied carrier bag to gut mackerel on, then dropped it on the floor. I picked it up and handed it to them, suggesting that it could end up in the water choking a seal (a harbour seal visits regularly) and received a blank stare followed by muttered abuse.

I was almost ready to vote for a sea fishing licence at that point, backed up by heavy fines for littering.

Re: Babbacombe - Oddicombe Beach

Iteresting response Dartfly, and wholly accurate. You have my vote.

Just thought the council now employe Compliance officers (litter police) and also employe beach managers I believe there is one at Babbacombe in th esummer months.

So if people inform the council of this littering problem they will have to act, I happen to know a a lot of people in the council (I work there) so I will raise the matter and post any response here shortly, its the council so it may take a while!!
