| Re: Bass Plug help. Good post Dood. All I would change is the middle one of your three proposed reasons There are none there, They arnt feeding the waters too cloudy for them to see. For shore fishing, I think a bass would only come from the comfort of offshore reefs, wrecks etc. into casting range and what goes with it (swirling sand getting into the gills, currents, different temperature, more exposure to predators) if he was feeding. Like most wild animals, fish don't swim about aimlessly, using up the energy they need for survival. Just like a bat, rabbit, sparrow, lion etc - they all move to feed and when not feeding they hide and rest. But out in the deeps there is more chance of a fish changing station out of fear etc. So I feel that fish in the safety of the deeps could swim about and not feed. So I think that for bass, if they are in, they must be feeding. Mullet are completely different, being umpteen times more inquisitive. I don't think we'll ever understand them one bit. Just my theory! Geoff |

| Re: Bass Plug help. I really like dogwalker-style plugs in freshwater for black bass, and in saltwater for a lot of stuff. If you're not familiar, I'm referring to the Heddon Zara Spook, Zara Puppy, Super Spook, Super Spook Jr, and Spit'n Image, the Imakatsu Trairão, the Nakamura Zarinha, Rapala Skitter Walk, Mann's Disco Dawg, Evergreen Combat Pencil, Sébile Splasher and Slimm Stick, Tifa Giorush, Ozark Woodwalker, Gilmore Jumper, Rebel Jumpin' Minnow, Yo-Zuri Banana Boat, Lucky Craft Sammy, and Tsunami Walking Minnow to name a few off the top of my head. You'll want to cast it as far as humanly possible. Then you'll want to twitch it back while simultaneously reeling in the slack. It makes a zigzag motion across the top and makes a LOT of noise. In freshwater I've seen largemouth bass run from 35 feet away and 20 feet down to hit one of these on top. The strikes are heart-stopping! This technique will also work on pike and perch in freshwater. __________________ 2012 species: 13 All-time species: 65 New species caught in 2012: white sucker, popeye shiner, white shiner |
