Exclamation Barbel fishing HELP

hi, im going barble fishing for my birthday, i was thinking of the ouse or the severn to fish. ive been fishing with my dad for 4-5 months, i have caught a few 10lb carp and a 13lb ghost just to name a few, ive heard barble put up a big fight so im not quite sure what line i should be using.

ive got a nice ledger rod and a lot of feeders to play around with but i dont know what feeder to use, should i be casting up stream or close to the oppersite bank.

If anyone can tell me line, hook size, tips, feeder, hookbait or ground bait it would be a huge help, thank you.

Re: Barbel fishing HELP

not snaggy there maddison its pretty wide and clear similar to the trent i guess i was quoting what the match lads use for them i have had them on that gear , ok if you have a soft action rod and he did say he had a ledger rod not a specialist rod i doubt the line rating will be above that buddy ,,i did say i use barble rod ,, i use a 1.75 barble rod running lead 2oz on 8 lb line to a buffer bead swivel kryston hook link with a size 8 sometimes a 6 and a hair rigged boilie mainly a crab fav frozen shop brought ,,maddison do you fish newark at all ??
i think chief uses 6lb line on the stour for them that runs onto the 7
