As some of you already know I've come back into coarse fishing again after over 30 years chasing trout, salmon and sea trout. As I live minutes from the Severn, I decided that I would have a day on the river up the road from me. I also thought It might be a good idea to give the missus a go too.....
Anyway, we finally got down on Wednesday. I started before the wife as she had an appointment in town. I set 2 rods up, a float rod and my specialist rod and had about an hour knocking out dace and the odd roach before the wife reappeared. I set her up in the next peg with the specialist rod with a big lump of meat.
Well, she managed to launch about half a tin of meat across the river before she finally mastered the art of casting with the meat still attached to the hook!
After about 15 mins I heard the immortal words... I've got one!!!!
Oh yes, her first barbel, must have been nearer 7lb than 6. Cracking fish and great scrap. She was moaning that it made her arm ache...shame!
She hooked another a bit later but it didn't stay on and missed a few more.
Me, I carried on catching dace and the odd small chub...
I think she's got the bug........ Oh, she also had a few dace on the float too....

typicle my we girl lulu will catch wen i cant ,,and my missy had a 28lb pike from a lake id been fishing years my best was 19 and they dont let you live it down

Could turn out to be an expensive hobby. Keep her away from tackle shops

Women do seem to often catch large fish; What about Miss Georgina Ballantine's 64lb. Tay Salmon caught in 1922??

My daughter has beaten both my son and me on several occasions, and she doesn't fish very often either.

It must be their female feremones tainting their bait or something like that.

Maybee I should start packing my fishing gear in handbags, her bags are plenty big enough and she has so many she wouldn`t even notice 1 got lost

Last time I took the better half fishing she completely wiped the floor of me, yet still manged to find reasons to nag me!!! After she proclaimed that she didn`t realy like the actual fishing part so wouldn`t be doing it again (phew) and since then she has left me to it . Only problem is I now have the "I out fished you" line for the rest of my life lol.

She beat me one night sea trout fishing on the Torrodge too. I only managed a few peel of about a pound each, she hooked and landed a 4lber before I could get out of the water and up the bank to help her! I wouldn't mind but she was only fishing that bit of water because it was easy to cast.
She put a mate of mine to shame once too. My mate, the trout fishing expert....not! ( all the gear and no idea) manged to loose a couple of fish by his "drag em in " technique ( can't do that with trout, especially late season rainbows) when the missus walked off down the bank and started fishing on her own away from us lads. Five minutes later her rod was bent double and she shouts " got one" Yeh, a five pound rainbow! My mate didn't speak much after that especially when I hooked a 4lber just after... He he..
I recon its her education, she's got a Zoology degree and did her final year thiesis on trout feeding behavior.. or maybe she's just lucky!!!!!!

I use one of the wifes old hand bags (a big brown leather one with loads of pockets & zips) i took the long strap off though so it goes in the box & not over my shoulder.
Fortunately she'd left a nail varnish in one of the pockets, so @ least if i'm not catching, i can sit on the bank & do Me' nails.

What d'ya mean ONE DAY??
Talking bout lady non anglers - me & the wife went to Menoca with the telescopic gear & she caught the biggest all the week - looke dlike some sort of black bream around 2lb from a rocky cove near the hotel (could nearly fish from the apartment bedroom window) on bread & sardine paste.
