Barbel & chub fishing on Saturday

Thought I would start this thread hear as a continuation of what I was talking about on another thread

So I am going to hit the medway again on saturday at east farleigh, I have got the spot picked and after some kind advice on here I think I know how I am going to fish for them, still I have a few more questions to ask and I gratefully anticipate some feedback

I am going to attempt fishing a block end feeder with yellow maggot as the river has a nice flow, I have checked my box and I have some feeders in there so all is good. I do not however own a quiver tip so how should I go about setting this up for bite detection? I have a carp rod and a float rod at my disposal so do I set the feeder under a large float?? or, shall I set it up on my carp rod and use a bite alarm? Chris suggested an adjustable carp bobbin but I dont know what this is or even if I got one? I have a limited amount of F/W gear and am not likely to get much more this side of xmas so it`s a case of using what i got. I have a few small leads (1 of which is a safety inline lead which seems to fall off the plastic pin??), a plumb lead, loads of different floats, a load of feeders, a few hairs, some line, some 30lb braid, shot, swivels, hook removers and a few packets of hooks (14`s,10`s &8`s)

I have about 2 trips experience under my belt (i only done sea angling till recent) so I am being ambitious I know but hey if I learn properly the first time round I will be off to a good start.

Any help is MUCH appreciated

Joe

Re: Barbel & chub fishing on Saturday

hi joe,
this is the bobbin i was refering to, the top comes off and you fill with shot to counter the flow, to balance it, more flow more shot, tie a piece of strong nylon to the eye at the bottom and attach to rod rest, otherwise when you strike it will fly off into the distance and you will lose it.

all local tackle shops should have these in stock.

Re: Barbel & chub fishing on Saturday

take a bag of hemp with you, put in 4/5 handfuls when you arrive, try to estimate the flow to get your hemp seed where your gonna fish, then set up your tackle, gives a chance for the fish to locate it.

chris cheap bobbing ,,take a hair grip push through a cork add string to the loop stiking out one end i used fly line backing paint it orange add swan shot for weight, the other end is a perfect line clip ,,,"where are the days when you had to think on your feet before the big tackle companies took over",,,,,corks make great sea floats for lite baits

Re: Barbel & chub fishing on Saturday

i agree, a bit of thought can make most bits of equipment, but the age of consumerism is here, and its cheap.
