Severn Barbel Fishing

I am considering a visit to Bewdley to fish for barbel on the severn this year, and would welcome any information from anyone out there who has been previously, regards best places to go, accomodation either hotel or BB, swims, day tickets, etc anything at all which would be of help!!

Re: Severn Barbel Fishing

BAA Ticket gives you access to loads of fishing in this area and day tickets are £6 from Stan Lewis in Bewdley town centre.

There's some excellent barbel fishing in this area so give Stan a call.

There are other clubs too as the only down side of the BAA waters is they tend to get a hammering.

Check out the Kinver Freeliners website as they have two lots of fishing either side of the Severn at Hampton Loade. The unicorn section is also on the same site as a campsite (rather spookily called , the Unicorn Inn camp site). I've never actually stayed there (I live 25 minutes drive away) and often see it from the opposite (BAA) bank. The campsite does seem quite noisy at times but then again this all seems to calm down once it goes dark. There's also the added advantage of the Unicorn pub which seems to be OK from what I've heard.

Re: Severn Barbel Fishing

I'd try to be a bit more helpful, I think my forum tag says it all though. So you most defina
tely will be better off phoning Stan. It's also worth giving Bridgnorth tackle a call too as they are right next to the top end of "barbel alley" and will give you pointers to the water around that end.

Have a quick look on yell and do a search for Fishing Tackle Bewdley. Marks tackle Stourport (Roach/River Carp), Stan (Roach, Barbel), you've also got Mal Storey. If you do a similar search for Bridgnorth then you'll get Bridgnorth Angling no doubt.

Tight lines, and I forgot to mention that in many places the Severn Valley railway is next to the river. Even if you aren't a train spotter it still adds to the atmosphere when a steam train passes.

Re: Severn Barbel Fishing

Hi Paul,
I would go along with Barbel blanker as regards contacting Bridgnorth angling. They certainly know there stuff. You could also try a lad called Chris Holmes from middle severn Angling who has lots of info from matches etc. You could also look at http://www.riversevernbarbelfishing.com for useful tips

Re: Severn Barbel Fishing

Hiya Paul.
I guided three chaps from down south on Fri, Sat and Sun. The river was was up and coloured but fell over the course of the weekend. We fished Hampton loade on Friday and had a few all on pellet, but fishing was hard as the river was still pushing through pretty well. On saturday i took them to eardingon Brook which again was pretty hard going but we caught. Sunday, the weather was horrible but the river had fined down well and catch/bite rates improved. It was just starting to fish in the afternoon when the lads had to go home. Needless to say i will be out on the banks tomoroow after a day off today!
