Re: Severn Barbel Fishing

Paul,

Eardington Brook is an absolutely lovely bit of river with quite a few different swim types in a short stretch of river. Prepare to jump out of your skin when the severn valley railwaymen hit the whistle.

There are some pictures of the severn on various threads I've posted if you want to see what it's like on the ground.

Firemantim has picked a great part of the river by suggesting that.

Re: Severn Barbel Fishing

Tim, Had a look at the pic,s area looks very good, we like peaceful, looking forward to coming down, should have definite dates soon as to our visit, we were wondering if we require to bring any special gear ie heavy cage feeders, leads etc as the severn will be differant from fishing on the swale I would think. Advice on best baites would be useful, we normally use casters, hemp, pellets, meat etc depending on conditions minimum line 8lb any info would be useful.
Tight lines (Wish i could have said that sunday gone!!)

Re: Severn Barbel Fishing

I'd always use 10lb on the Severn as its a large, powerful river and a fair few snaggy bits. I use feeders between 2 and 5oz generally, open-ended stuffed with soaked pellets or method mix with hemp in. Bait wise, I always recommend 2x8mm pellets on a hair below a size 14 super specialist - the days of lobbing out 18-22mm pellets and hoping for the best are long gone! If its very clear scale you bait down to 2x6mm or maggots. Look on my site and on the diary page I always say what I've been using.
Tight lines
