Re: Orange Barbel!!!!

The only orange barbel I have ever seen was in a museum, it had been the subject of many preservative chemicals in it's time, and so, was decidedly the wrong colour ;)

Re: Orange Barbel!!!!

Here are two photos I was shown by a guy on another fishing forum (fishingeye.co.uk); He said that both Barbel where caught from the river Ribble.

Strange

Another member on another Forum said the following:

Quote:
"I believe they turn up on the Thames occasionally as well.
If they have not come from the ornamental fish trade then they soon will.
If you don't want to see them disappear keep the location very close to your chest, fish like this are worth a fortune to breeders in the ornamental trade. "

Re: Orange Barbel!!!!

They do exist (Golden Barbel). Saw one from the Thames many years ago.

But they don't tend to last too long as they are a prime target for predators (both natural and man made).

Pretty sure they are not natural variations, rather more the hand of man in there somewhere along the line.
