| Barbel No. 2! After a long day at work on Friday I decided to nip down for an evening session down the river. I tried to get away from work early so I could get down the river for 4pm but couldn't get there until 6:30ish. Despite that I set up two feeder rods. Hoping for Chub or Barbel I sat back with optimism. At 8pm I was in luck. My rod went thumping down and I struck. I'm sure the fish on the end of the hook wasn't in the best of moods as he shot off downstream and I was struggling not to lose him. I recovered slightly and trying desperately not to let the fish snag me up in the brambles. I took up fishing in June this year and I've caught plenty of nice size carp, but nothing fought anywhere near as much as this Barbel. I was playing the fish cautiously and was using 6lb line. After about 15 minutes I landed this nice 8lb 6oz Barbel.      |
