Smile Guides/what a day

Hi all

I have just returned from a day's Barbel fishing with a guide which i found on the web

I emailed numerous guides but only had two replies, one was Chris Pondsford, (he has a web site which is user friendly) I contacted Chris, booked a day and off i went fishing on the Wye

Chris has several miles of virgin Barbel fishing, previously only been fished for Salmon in the past

We started at approx 10am, a bit late but i had to visit a chemist for some pain killers after my my back started playing up, the river was gin clear but by 4.00pm i had ten Barbel to 9lb, some Chub and a bloody great Eel all from one swim, if i had not suffered with my back and fished more swims i am positive more Barbel would have been caught

The river is set in beautiful surroundings, no traffic noise, no other angler, i even saw four Salmon jump and had a Kingfisher settle on the end of my rod for a few seconds, Barbel where seen flashing in other areas of river that Chris had just gained access too

Chris Pon's being a keen photographer took many pictures of the day, which i will be receiving copies shortly

Chris made it an enjoyable day for me and his sense of humor added to the enjoyment, a curry and a few beers in the evening made for a really good time

Anyone looking to learn and catch some stunning looking Barbel check out his web site, his day rate is also well below that of other guides

Cheers

Darrell

Re: Guides/what a day

Chris is indeed a bit "mad" but as you say in a good way. A very good angler, he also knows the West Midlands rivers extremely well (Severn and Teme in particular). He's a regular contributor to Coarse Fisherman magazine and his writings are well worth a read.

Congratulations on an excellent day out with "The Pons".
