Re: new barbel record

Not seen or heard anything about it ...but well done to whoever caught it.

Just a thought though...I bet it came from a known peg and its entire growth history is charted due to the number of times it has been caught, and it probably has a name.

This seems to be the trend in specimen hunting, with anglers living on the banks in certain pegs targeting a particular fish...sorry but that kind of fishing isn't for me. Well done to whoever caught it thought...and yes there may be just a hint of jealousy here

Dave

Re: new barbel record

yes,you are right dave,it was a known fish from the Great Ouse,I agree with you, these fish put on excessive weight due to eating enormous amounts of boilies, hemp, luncheon meat etc, people know where these fish live and thrash the water until they catch lumpy, fred or one scale whatever they might be called.I take no credit away from those who catch these fish, its just not what interests me,i grew up going to lakes and rivers not knowing what was living in the depths and it was that mystery that kept fuelling my enthusiasm,I don't like the trend for day ticket puddles where you know exactly what is in there.
it is due to that that i find myself drawn to sea fishing more and more these days, the sport may not be a patch on what it was 35 years ago when i started, but there is still that mystery, you never know what the next bite may bring.

Re: new barbel record

Fishypaul,

I wrote a long post folowing my one this morning along the lines of the muddy puddle phenomenon...I hate them but fish them when I'm travelling in summer for my work.

Dont you just hate that moment when you have spent 20 mins typing a post ...hit submit and you get that page unavailable message...site was down for me for about 20 mins.

Any chance of a barbel page on the freshwater fishing forum? We have seperate threads for different species in the sea forum...how about the coarse fish forum?

Dave
