Bechalan

I have had some success recently fishing for carp with pellet smeared with a bit of bechalan ( that shrimp paste they use in chinese restaurants to make prawn crackers).

This has boosted my carp fishing, I think mainly due to its very salty taste.

Do Barbel have the same passion for salt that carp have, I was thinking of trying halibut pellets smeared with bechalan for some river barbel this weekend and wondered if anyone had any ideas?

Re: Bechalan

where do you get your bechalan from, i want some. Is it that smelly thick thai shrimp paste i've seen on ebay for around £5!? I reckon barbel will love it as much as carp!

mithrandir; Did you try it for the Barbel?; if so how did you get on?

One of my local fishing tackle shops sells bechalan in powder form for the Carp boys; but Ive also seen Bechalan pellets advertised on the web.
I was thinking of trying Bechalan pellets superglued onto a hair for Barbel as I don't think its oily or fatty so could be useful in cold water.

Re: Bechalan

I did try the bechalan, only caught one fish all day, but that was better than half the people there.

No way was it conclusive as I think you just had to be lucky where ou placed the bait as the fish weren't really feeding.

I will pursue this.

Bechalan can be bought from Chinese supermarket

I actually got mine quite cheap from a stall on my local market one sunday.

Re: Bechalan

I managed to get hold of some, five 250g packets, they are still sealed up but you can still smell it!! I'm planning to make some paste and will prob use spicy shrimp and prawn boilies blitzed in a blender with an egg with some of this stuff added plus a few other ingredients.I hope the results will be good!
