Melbourne/Cairns Fishing

We went north to Cairns last Friday, a four hour flight I'm still coming to grips with the size of this country,
anyway the plan was to fish Sunday and Monday the rest of our time there being R&R.
Hotel was a resort in its own right with a four mile beach, welcome to the Coral Sea,

which you are advised not to swim in as Box jellyfish and sea snakes inhabit the waters in numbers,

One thing that stuck me was the lack of beach anglers, the "plan" was going awry as nobody wanted to take us
bottom fishing on the reef, game fishing no probs more than a dozen boats all willing to take our money, $2000/
$2500, trolling up and down isn't my cup of tea, so we settled for a day in the Trinity Inlet, even as we tried to
book we were told Barras are few and far between, you will catch fish, they might be small or if you're lucky big.
Honest and upfront, so we booked it $380 for both of us. 0730 saw us getting on our Cairns "charter"

Jeff our guide was friendly and explained the fishing and rules, set the drag light let the fish run then hit it,
keep all body parts in the boat as there are salt water crocs here. So off we set to get our live bait of sard a
small sprat like fish.

Jeff was an expert,

we soon had enough for the day and set about fishing,

Roger with a Travely,

Spanish Macci,

Finger Mark

Ramora,

Wolf Herring,

Sooty Grunter, it was fun fishing and these little fish put a good bend in the light gear.

We also tried up river, searching for a barra, no luck but came across this,

Lots of fish caught and all returned, 1630 came and we headed for the marina, time to buy Jeff a beer.

Cheers..........

Nice one.

What about the teeth on that Wolf Herring.

Wish I was there.
