| Well the summer just gone has been another great one.Since the ban on commercial fishing (incl. Trapping ,Prawn Trawling,Mesh Netting and Bait Netting) the Harbour has come on in leaps and bounds. It has been 3yrs since levels of allowable Dioxin were reduced and several species ,mostly bottom feeders & squid & prawns ,were found to have unacceptably high levels in the Parramatta River and some upper reaches of the Harbour proper. There has been a noticeable increase in small baitfish ,but due to a long drought which only broke last yr.,the incease was modest until this summer. The population of baby Snapper ('pinkies' ) has boomed ,and these slower growing fish will in future become a valuable catch for anglers in the 'safer' parts of the Harbour. Tailor have returned to the harbour in much larger sizes than previously this winter and this trend is set to continue due to the baitfish bonanza. My favorite fish(Mulloway & Kingfish) have shown modest increases in numbers but not in size, and are being more aggressively sought by rec anglers. Kingfish ,due to their stamina & strength in particular have become the 'Flavour of the Month' . I shall try and post some pics as I realise the names of fish may be unfamiliar but some of the types of fish may have European equivalents . Regards K F ![]() |

| The seawater in the Harbour has dropped to a chilly 17c,and the summer is well and truly over.I fished last wed 21/5 and caught 6 silver Bream from 30-37cms long, the biggest was in roe and must have been 1kg+.All were returned unharmed. Then I went to a very clear & clean part of the Harbour near to Sydney Heads to get lunch.Landed another Bream and a Silver Trevally (Jack in the US) which measured 42cms to the tail tip (16 inches) ![]() I have a pic but do not know how to insert it in the Trackback as I use/send all pics directly from my phone and don't own a computer ! |
