Question Gran Canaria shore fishing

Has anyone any ideas about shore fishing off Gran Canaria as I am going on holiday to Puerto Mogan in June. I have a day booked boat fishing on 'Blue Marlin 3' which will be mostly trolling I imagine. I would have thought that spinning off the rocks would be productive with shads and plugs but some inside info would be a great help.
Thanks.

Well fished fertur... a few times ( not going to spell it ) Have found that floating plugs are good and had great fun with floating gear

As usual early morning or late evening were the best . Have not done any boat stuff though

Is that float fishing like we do for garfish etc over here? And do you know what species you were catching?

Re: Gran Canaria shore fishing

Yes mate - small strips of squid on a 2 or 3 hook size , three hook pattern below

Although I did use small sprat on the float and had a few good fish 3-4lb

Best thing about these baits are you can get them from any local market

As for what type of fish - well have not got a clue , wore a rubber glove evertime I unhooked a fish just incase it had spines or could end you up in the hospital

The good thing about taking float kit on your hols is that you can fish from the rocks whilst your misses sunbaths ( I used to call that our quailty time together )

THAT is exactly the image I have - getting her to go fishing without her actually realising that she has gone fishing.....she has the mad idea that we will be sitting around on the beach - YAWN! We are taking our snorkelling gear so hopefully I can find us a nice, sheltered, fish filled, rocky cove to spend our 'quality time' together. I think I can even get her out on the boat under the promise of spotting dolphins and turtles....whilst I marlin fish...
Would you say the fishing is 'good' out there or average?

Re: Gran Canaria shore fishing

Like the UK, if a beach is full of powerboats and swimmers then its going to be poor , but just by walking along to the ends the fishing improves

Do not forget the marinas as they are packed with bait fish plus massive mullet

Had a laugh last trip as there was a cafe by the dock and they used to feed the fish with bread. The tourists loved it ect. So me and my rod went there and had a great time fishing - hehe their faces were a picture

We went in Feb to peurto rico and Husband had good Tuna off of the rocks at the end of the LH side of the main beach as you stand facing the sea. He went very early 5 or 6 am and was back by 9am. He used spinning lures.

Re: Gran Canaria shore fishing

you will generally find that the sea is quite peaceful in respects to powerboats and jet skis during the week, it gets a bit busier at the weekends.

you will find that you can not fish in the the harbour area which is a shame as there are some greta fish in there. you are correct, they mostly float fish over here as the bottom is very rocky.

the floats over come pre-wieghted on the bottom and they are quite cheap, around 1.50(euros upwards). i have only been a couple of times fishing there as i live up the north. just beware of the heat in june.

its about 38 there at the moment and the locals are saying that we will be in for a hot summer this year so it could be around 40 plus by then.

hope this helps.
